Vancouver residents gathered at a makeshift memorial on Monday to honor victims of a car ramming attack that killed 11 people and injured dozens more.
Abandoned food trucks and trash were still visible on the street where the attack occurred, which has been blocked off by police.
On Saturday, a man drove through a crowded pedestrian zone at a street fair honoring a 16th century anti-colonial Filipino resistance leader. Officials have charged the man, 30-year-old Vancouver resident Kai-Ji Adam Lo, with eight counts of second-degree murder. Court documents do not show a plea.

“Everybody was having fun,” said Elizabeth Martir, a Vancouver resident who attended the festival. “We were there like two minutes before what happened... it could have been us.”

Scott McTaggart, a Vancouver resident who visited the memorial, told Reuters, “It’s voting day today, but it's not about what party you vote for. It's not about your party leader. It's about being connected to the human family. And in some ways, we've failed our people in that.”
Emil Canlas, a Filipino-Canadian who visited the memorial, said, “What we need now is support, prayer, and, you know, and just be collaborative and cooperative in the process so that things will get better, and we can show support to the family who were affected.”
