(UPDATED) On the third day of attempting to visit former President Rodrigo Duterte, Honeylet Avanceña entered the International Criminal Court detention facility in The Hague with her daughter, Kitty Duterte.

Avanceña, Duterte’s common-law partner, earlier attempted to visit the former president on Thursday, but was unable to meet him.

On Wednesday afternoon, Avanceña and her daughter, Veronica “Kitty” Duterte, also attempted to visit the former president but were unsuccessful.

They left the ICC detention facility after visiting Duterte for around three hours on Friday.

Meanwhile, outside the facility, supporters of former President Duterte gathered in a fenced green patch near the ICC detention center to celebrate his 80th birthday.

Vice President Sara Duterte, Senator Robin Padilla, and Atty. Harry Roque delivered speeches, thanking supporters for attending the gathering.

Supporters are expected to stay until 5 p.m. (Dutch time) to conclude the program.

Duterte was arrested on March 11  on his arrival from Hong Kong at the request of the International Criminal Court (ICC) as part of its probe into his "war on drugs" that defined his presidency.

The ICC warrant for Duterte's arrest said that as president, the 79-year-old Duterte created, funded, and armed death squads that carried out murders of purported drug users and dealers.

He was brought to The Hague in the Netherlands on the same day he was arrested.

Duterte on March 14 appeared via video link before ICC judges. He is set to attend a September 25 hearing to confirm the charges against him. - with reports from Agence France-Presse
