STORY: Cities across the United States of America are seeing protests Monday (February 3) as part of the nationwide "Day Without Immigrants" movement.

The campaign is aimed at condemning President Donald Trump's mass deportation plan.

Organizers tell Reuters immigrants and their supporters were told to stay home from work, school, and other daily activities.

The protests are meant to highlight the critical contributions of immigrant labor, from agriculture and beyond, in hopes of drawing attention to the ongoing struggles facing immigrant communities.

"We have undocumented parents and... they always have told us to be their voice," said Melanie, a 20-year-old U.S. citizen with undocumented parents.

Melanie brought her 15-year-old brother, Eduardo, with her to a protest near Trump Tower in downtown Chicago, Illinois, to show support for people like their parents.

"'Immigrants built America -- who's the one who picks your crops? It's immigrants," said Melanie. "They're the ones in the fields. Who picks up your trash? It's immigrants. They're the ones that are cleaning out the offices... they're the ones behind everything."

In Chicago, more pro-immigrant protests are in the works, as demonstrators hope to quell the growing fear and concern over deportation in immigrant communities.
