Texan authorities placed a new set of buoys on the American side of the Rio Grande river on Tuesday (January 2) as seen in drone footage shot from the northern Mexican city of Piedras Negras.

Video showed three excavators and several workers on an airboat, expanding an existing set of buoys by the Texan town of Eagle Pass.

The move is part of Texas Governor Gregg Abbott's Operation Lone Star to deter migrants from reaching the U.S. via its border with Mexico.

"I look forward to continuing to work closely with President Trump to secure the border," Abbott wrote in an X post regarding the buoys.

Local Mexican media reported the installation of the first set of buoys on Friday (January 17), days before Trump's inauguration. The row of buoys extends at least one kilometer in length (0.6 miles).
