Joe Biden was born on November 20, 1942, in Scranton, Pennsylvania, where he was raised a devout Catholic. He earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Delaware and a law degree from Syracuse University.

Biden's political career began on the New Castle County Council in 1970 and served for two years before being elected senator in 1972.
