MANILA — A low pressure area formed over the Philippine Sea on Tuesday afternoon and could develop into a tropical depression later this week, PAGASA said.

The state weather bureau said the LPA was already inside the Philippine area of responsibility. It was spotted 1,040 kilometers east of southeastern Luzon and was moving northwestward at 2 p.m.

It may develop into a tropical depression by Wednesday evening or Thursday morning and will be called Crising, the third storm in the country this year, PAGASA said.

The disturbance may enhance the southwest monsoon or habagat that will bring significant rainfall over the western section of the country in the coming days.

The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) earlier in the day said it was assessing potential risks from the weather disturbance.

"We are preparing po sa pagdating naman ng isa pang potential na bagyo towards the weekend," said OCD Assistant Secretary Raffy Alejandro.

"Tuloy-tuloy ang pag-conduct ng risk assessment… We are constantly reminding our local governments na maghanda dahil magiging maulan ang linggong ito and we are expecting some weather disturbances over the weekend," he told state television PTV.

Meanwhile, the Philippine government has already poured in P7.4 million in aid to help 103,000 individuals or 32,000 families who were affected by monsoon rains in the first half of the year, according to data from the OCD.

State weather bureau PAGASA earlier said that between 11 and 19 tropical cyclones were expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility in the second half of 2025.
