MANILA -- Number coding will be not be implemented during the holidays in April, according to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).

In a Facebook post, the MMDA said number coding is lifted on April 9 or Araw ng Kagitingan, which is considered a regular holiday in the Philippines.

MMDA Chairman Romando Artes, meanwhile, earlier said that number coding will also be lifted on April 17 (Maundy Thursday) and April 18 (Good Friday).

Artes said the MMDA is deploying 2,546 employees to make sure Filipinos can quickly and safely move to airports, seaports and bus terminals, major roads, and other transport hubs from April 16 to 21.

Artes added that the agency's field personnel will not be allowed to go on leaves on April 16, 17 and 21, when heavy traffic is expected due to the Holy Week exodus.
