MANILA — The town of Camiling Tarlac sizzled to 39.9 degrees Celsius temperature — the hottest yet this 2025 — on Easter Sunday, April 20, according to data from state weather bureau PAGASA.

On April 27 last year, the town recorded a 40.3°C temperature amid a very strong El Niño episode.

Several areas in Luzon also experienced feverish temperatures on Sunday: 38.5°C in San Jose, Occidental Mindoro; 38.4°C in Echague, Isabela; 38.0°C in Olongapo City; 37.9°C in Tuguegarao City; and 37.5°C in Mabalacat City.

Meanwhile, the NAIA PAGASA station in Pasay City posted a temperature of 35.8°C. On April 16, that station observed its highest temperature yet this year at 37.2°C.

The temperature refers to the air temperature measured using a thermometer at PAGASA stations.

On the other hand, heat index refers to the actual heat felt by the body when considering both air temperature and humidity.

The highest heat index reported so far this year is 50°C, measured in Iba, Zambales on April 1 and in Los Baños, Laguna on April 16.

The warm and humid Easterlies blowing from the Pacific currently dominate the country, which is in the peak of the warm and dry season that may last through the first half of May.

More frequent and more intense thunderstorms will be experienced thereafter, which will signal the transition to the rainy season over the western part of the archipelago.
