MANILA - The heat index in Sangley Point, Cavite City soared to a scorching 47°C on Palm Sunday, April 13, according to state weather bureau PAGASA.

Twenty-five other areas reached dangerous heat index levels of 42-45°C, including Baler, Aurora and the cities of Puerto Princesa and Pasay.

The heat is expected to rise this Holy Week.

On April 14, Holy Monday, more than 55 localities are forecast to experience 40°C heat index or higher.

Twenty-five of these areas may breach dangerous HI levels, with Cavite City; Echague, Isabela; and Pasay City possibly reaching 44°C.

Extreme caution is advised for heat index values of 33-41°C. 

Meanwhile, 42-51°C range is considered dangerous. Heat cramps and heat exhaustion are likely while heat stroke probable with continued exposure to these conditions.
