MANILA — Transport group Manibela on Monday launched another transport strike in front of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) in Quezon City.

More than a hundred Manibela members joined the protest and marched along East Avenue from Agham Road until they reached LTFRB.

This resulted in the temporary closure of the eastbound lane of East Avenue. Affected motorists waited for almost 15 minutes before authorities opened the road again at around 10:12 a.m.

Manibela chairman Mar Valbuena said this protest was originally scheduled last December after the LTFRB issued its memorandum circular 2024-043 extending the validity of provisional authority (PA) of public utility jeepney (PUJ) who opted to joined the public transport modernization program (PTMP).

“Nakita natin na ginigipit na naman yung ating mga kasamahan... Ginagawa nila ito sa iba-ibang rehiyon," Valbuena said.

Lito Andal, member of Pinagkaisang Samahan ng mga Tsuper at Operator Nationwide (PISTON), joined the protest to condemn officials of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and LTFRB, whom according to him promised that their units will be registered if they consolidate their units.

According to Valbuena, Manibela will stage a bigger transport strike before January ends.

The LTFRB has yet to comment.
