Maria Tan, ABS-CBN News/FileWhile some Filipinos dreamt of a white Christmas, those in Metro Manila, CALABARZON, Bicol Region, and parts of MIMAROPA woke up to heavy rains this Wednesday due to a shear line.

A shear line forms where the cool northeast monsoon (Amihan) converges with the warm and moist Easterlies from the Pacific, resulting in thick clouds and persistent rainfall.

This weather system also extended to Samar and southern Central Luzon.

As of 8 a.m. this Wednesday, the following heavy rainfall warnings are in effect:

• Orange Warning: Camarines Norte

• Yellow Warning: Batangas, Laguna, Quezon, northeastern Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, eastern Albay, Sorsogon, Northern Samar, and the northern portions of Samar and Eastern Samar

Continuous rains in Quezon, Bicol, and Eastern Visayas for the past two weeks have caused flooding and landslides in various areas. PAGASA warns that these hazards remain a threat, urging residents to stay alert and take all necessary actions to protect life and property.

Meanwhile, Amihan blankets Northern and Central Luzon bringing chilly weather, including a brisk 17 degrees Celsius Christmas morning in Baguio City. Light to occasionally moderate rains are expected in Cordillera and Cagayan Valley.

For Visayas and Mindanao, scattered thunderstorms may bring heavy downpours later in the day.

Before the weekend, the shear line is forecast to shift northward and drench Northern Luzon as Amihan weakens.

However, the weather bureau assures that no tropical disturbances will affect the country until the end of the week.
