MANILA — It's going to be a wet Christmas in many parts of Luzon and some areas in the Visayas due to the northeast monsoon or amihan and a shear line, weather bureau PAGASA said in its special outlook.

On Christmas eve, the shear line will drench Metro Manila, Aurora, Calabarzon, Bicol, Mimaropa, Eastern Visayas, Aklan, and Capiz while light Amihan rains will be experienced in Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, and Central Luzon.

By Christmas Day, amihan will slightly retreat northwards so the shear line rains will spread to other parts of Central Luzon. Parts of MIMAROPA and Eastern Visayas will still experience some rains.

Many parts of Visayas and Mindanao may experience afternoon or evening thunderstorms on Tuesday. By December 25, Caraga and Davao Region will also have scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the humid Easterlies blowing from the Pacific.

The weather disturbance over the West Philippine Sea, locally called Romina, intensified into a tropical storm and was given the international name Pabuk.

At 3:00 p.m. Monday, it was located 165 kilometers west of Kalayaan, Palawan.

PAGASA lifted the wind signal over the island group early Monday as it is not directly impacted by the disturbance anymore.

Meanwhile, no weather disturbance is expected inside the Philippine area of responsibility this Christmas week.
