MMDA: Expect heavy traffic on Dec. 21 in Manila for MMFF parade

MMDA advised motorists to expect heavy traffic on the days leading up to December 21 on the affected areas.

MANILA - The Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said Wednesday that preparations are underway for the annual "Parade of Stars" for the 50th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).

The parade will commence at 3 p.m. on Saturday, December 21, from the Kartilya ng Katipunan monument next to the Manila City Hall and will end at the Manila Central Post Office.

Furthermore, the parade is expected to run for 2-3 hours and will course through a 12-kilometer route.

MMDA will implement a temporary lane closure and a stop-and-go scheme in the following areas:

  • Padre Burgos
  • Abad Santos Avenue
  • España Boulevard
  • Legarda Street
  • Taft Avenue
  • Quintin Paredes
  • Tayuman Street
  • Nicanor Reyes Street
  • P. Casal Street
  • TM Kalaw
  • Reina Regente
  • Lacson Avenue
  • C.M. Recto Avenue
  • Ayala Boulevard
  • Roxas Boulevard


Roads and streets around the Kartilya ng Katipunan will be closed as early as December 20, for the overnight preparations of the ten participating floats.

During the parade itself (3 p.m. to 6 p.m.), the southbound lane of the McArthur Bridge will be closed to traffic.

Alternate routes are as follows:

  • Dasmariñas Street
  • Juan Luna Street
  • Plaza Cervantes
  • P. Casal Street
  • Quintin Paredes
  • Jones Bridge
  • Magallanes Drive
  • Intramuros Area

 

Heavy traffic is expected on December 21 in the said affected areas in Manila.

Clearing operations on double parking, vendors and other roadblocks are underway to ensure a smooth course of the parade.

All 10 production outfits have been advised and discouraged to throw giveaways such as posters, shirts and candies from their floats to the crowd, to prevent untoward incidents and accidents.
