MANILA — The amihan or the cold wind usually associated with Christmas is getting stronger, while the shear line will stir rains in parts of the country on Monday, state weather bureau PAGASA said.

The shear line is an area where warm and cold air meet. On Monday, it will bring scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms in Metro Manila, Mimaropa, Calabarzon, Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas, Western Visayas, Isabela, Quirino, Aurora, Nueva Ecija, and Bulacan, the weather agency said.

It said cloudy skies with rains were expected in the rest of Cagayan Valley and Cordillera Administrative Region due to the shear line.

Ilocos Region and the rest of Central Luzon will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains due to the amihan, while the rest of the country could expect localized thunderstorms, PAGASA said.

Several local government units announced the suspension of classes on Monday, Dec. 2 due to heavy rainfall brought by the shear line.
