MANILA – Former Vice President and ABS-CBN News anchor Noli De Castro on Tuesday said he agrees with the call for accountability from social media platforms for the spread of fake news and misinformation.

"Mahalaga ho yun. Kasi sila ang may means eh para maipakalat yun eh, wala namang iba. Kung Facebook halimbawa, Facebook lang ang magpapakalat niyan. Wala nang iba. Facebook to Facebook. So naniniwala ako na ang Meta, malaki ang responsibilidad," De Castro said when asked if he thinks social media platforms must be responsible of content.

"Sinusuportshan ko po itong initiative ninyo na labanan ang mga fake news. Kasama rin diyan ang misinformation at disinformation. Kasama rin po dito ang deepfake, naging biktima din ho ako niyan kasama ng ibang broadcaster. Kasama rin ang gen AI at ibang technology, hindi na natin mapipigilan yan," he said.

When asked if he tried to track down the sources of the false content, De Castro said he did not and he only knew recently about the need to report such posts to the platforms.

De Castro likewise agreed with the creation of a Digital Council of the Philippines, as proposed by Bataan Rep. Geraldine Roman, to formulate a code of ethics for social media.
