MANILA -- TikTok said it removed some 4.5 million videos from its platform in the Philippines from July to September 2024 for breaking its community guidelines.

Speaking with journalists, TikTok public policy manager Peachy Paderna said 99 percent of the videos were proactively removed, which means they were taken down before they were even reported. Of those that were reported, 98 percent were removed within 24 hours, she said.

"What we have is a very agile trust and safety team that takes very quick action on Community Guidelines violations so that we can keep our community users safe on TikTok," she said.

Paderna said the video hosting site has 40,000 safety professionals who help enforce their community guidelines.

The social media platform's guidelines prohibit posts with violence, hateful behavior, illegal activities, harassment and bullying, self-harm, and misinformation.

TikTok is also encouraging users to report problematic content they see on the platform.

Users can simply tap the Share button on the side of a video, click "Report," select a reason, then click "Submit."

"When content is taken down or acted on by our enforcement teams, that doesn't necessarily mean that the account will be taken down automatically," Paderna said.

"It's not a matter of [having] as many people as possible reporting one account," Paderna said. "Like, we don't need multiple reports to pay attention to community violations."
