MANILA -- Tech journalists and influencers were finally able to get a first hand look at Chinese tech giant Xiaomi's first entry into the global electric vehicle market.

The SU7 looked every bit as sleek and modern as the most popular EVs on the market today. Launched in March last year, the SU7 even includes sound simulation to recreate the thrill of driving a sports car--Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun was quoted in a 2024 news report from Agence France-Presse.

Xiaomi Philippines officials did not mention the specs of the SU7, but according to the company's global website, the car can accelerate from zero to 100 kilometers per hour in just 2.78 seconds and from zero to 200kph in 10.67 seconds. It also has a top speed of 265 kph.

However, there is no word yet on if and when the SU7 will be sold in the Philippines. Sam Sun, GTM Manager at Xiaomi only advised fans of the brand to "be sure to watch out for its official release in the close future."

In China the SU7 is being sold at 215,900 yuan (P1.7 million) for the standard model, while the Max version sells for 299,900 yuan (P2.36 million).

The Philippine electric car market is currently dominated by fellow Chinese automotive giant BYD, which is distributed by Ayala Corporation's mobility platform, ACMobility.
