MANILA — ASUS launched its latest series of Republic of Gamers (ROG) phones on Thursday that caters to hardcore mobile gamers.

The ROG Phone 9 series have console-like gaming features and accessories designed to appeal to mobile game and esports enthusiasts, the Taiwanese tech giant said.  

In an intimate event in Makati City on March 13, ASUS showcased the flagship ROG Phone 9 Pro and Pro Edition, the two differing on the storage and RAM capacity, as well as the upper-midranger ROG Phone 9 FE and the series' bespoke accessories. 

Attendees of the launch got to try both the Pro and FE versions, experiencing first-hand their features such as the Pro version's interactable AniMe Vision feature, AniMe Play, and the phone series' photography capabilities.

While gaming phones are typically expensive and are priced in the same range as flagships prices, Asus appeared to be trying a new strategy in introducing a model that's more affordable.

Asus said the ROG Phone 9 FE will have a special limited early bird starting price of P39,995 which will also come with an ROG Chill Case and ROG Antibacterial Glass Screen Protector. The FE however will have an official SRP of P44,995 when the early bird promo concludes.

The Pro and Edition versions however come with higher specs as expected. While the ROG Phone 9 FE comes with an older Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, 12GB of memory and 256GB of storage, the ROG Phone 9 Pro meanwhile is spec'd with a newer and faster Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset paired with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. It will also cost P62,995.

The top-of-the-line ROG Phone 9 Pro Edition also comes with the Snapdragon 8 chipset paired with a monster 24GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. It comes with a P76,995 sticker shocker.

All of these models come with sleek, futuristic design and gaming-ready 6.78-inch AMOLED screen with a 185Hz refresh rate.

The Pro and Edition versions will have the AniMe Vision auxiliary display at the back featuring 648 programmable mini-LEDs with exclusive animations that react to phone interactions.
