Photo from Senator Migz Zubiri/Facebook</div>DAVAO —  A section of the Bukidnon–Davao (BuDa) Road reopened to motorists on Wednesday, some two months after it was damaged by a landslide that disrupted transportation and the delivery of goods.The reopening was attended by Public Works and Highways Secretary Vince Dizon, Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri, and local officials, who inspected the road repair which was 90 to 95 percent complete. The construction of the four-lane permanent road was completed three months ahead of schedule, with the assistance of Japanese consultants who helped design a more stable and resilient roadway.“They said (Japanese consultants), number 1, ang pinakamabilis at safe na gagawin is to move the alignment papasok sa bundok kasi talagang delikado. Kasi ang initial plan, yun ang aayusin natin ulit kung saan bumagsak,” Dizon said.The DPWH allocated nearly P50 million for the project, sourced from the agency’s quick response fund.Two people died in the landslide on October 18, 2025, which led to the temporary closure of a portion of the highway.One of the identified causes of the landslide was the softening of the soil due to the continuous flow of water from above.As a result, the DPWH included the installation of a proper and adequate drainage system among its measures to prevent a similar incident.Officials said the early completion reflected the government’s commitment to finishing the repairs on time and ahead of schedule.“Maraming haka-haka na baka hindi gawing priority dahil nasa Mindanao, pero sabihin ko sa inyo na isang tawag lang namin kay Sec. Vince, kausap niya ang presidente. Inaksyonan nila kaagad,” Zubiri said.According to the DPWH and local government officials, the economy was losing around P40 million per day due to delays in the delivery of vegetables and fruits from Bukidnon to Southern Mindanao, also affecting other businesses.“The biggest effect ani is the exporters of fruit. Bukidnon is a very big exporter of fruit. Imagine they have to go all the way around. We are very much relieved,” Quezon town Mayor Pablo Lorenzo III said.“Siyempre, yung maliliit na negosyante, apektado sila. Sa amin, mas concerned namin yung mga gulay-gulay because there are delivery to Davao. Aside from that, of course ang multinational corporations. Malaki ang gastos nila and additional cost especially sa transportation,” Bukidnon Governor Rogelio Neil Roque said.Starting Friday, asphalting of the road will begin, but the road will remain passable.
