MANILA — Four out of the six sports car enthusiasts allegedly involved in the viral racing video in Tagaytay appeared before the Land Transportation Office (LTO) on Monday to explain their side.

During the hearing, alias Alfie admitted to meeting with and driving up to Tagaytay with other sports car owners and drivers but he denied participating in the actual “test run.”

Alias Simon, who also attended the hearing, said he was the one who sent out the invite for the meet-up on social media.

But he claimed that another person drove his car for the test run. He also said that he does not see anything wrong with what they did.

Kasi based sa amin ma’am, pag pinapanood namin 'yung video parang okay lang, wala namang mali,” he said.

CONFISCATED LICENSES

But LTO Intelligence and Investigation Division Chief Renante Militante said all four owners, even those who just lent their cars, were liable for reckless driving.

Their driver’s licenses were confiscated and would remain suspended for 90 days as they were established to be improper persons to operate a motor vehicle.

Asked if their licenses would be revoked and by how much they would be fined, Militante said this would depend on how the investigation would play out, such as whether they already have prior driving violations.

“Administrative liability po nito lies also with the owner of the vehicle kaya lahat ng alarm naka-effect sa lahat ng sasakyan,” he said.

He reiterated that drag racing on public roads is illegal and dangerous.

SUBSEQUENT SUBPOENAS TO BE ISSUED VS TWO OTHER DRIVERS

Militante said the LTO would issue subsequent show cause orders to the two drivers who supposedly figured in the racing video before coming out with a final resolution on the case.

He has ordered the four sports car owners to give their names. Until then, the alarm on their vehicles will remain in effect.

Simon expressed commitment that they will cooperate with the LTO.

“Sabi po ni sir kanina para mabilis din 'yung pag-lift sa kotse namin 'yun po, magco-cooperate naman po kami,” he said.
