The DMW and OWWA provided P100,000 each to the rescued Filipinos, according to the agencies.

Caunan said the rescue was not easy as they vowed they would not only rescue the Filipinos but their salaries would be released as well.

Undersecretary Bernard Olalia said the manning agency involved was suspended earlier this year for its supposed failure to render assistance to the seafarers.

Those involved might face recruitment violations, according to Olalia. The manning agency may also face the cancellation of its license for its alleged failure to monitor the welfare of the Filipino seafarers as well as the delay of their payments.

“May risks in terms of doing these efforts, as I said unseaworthy yung ship na dinatnan and yung conditions doon, they could have waited for daylight to do this but they decided to do this under the cover of darkness para di na magsakripisyo nang one more day ang mga tripulante natin,” said Cacdac.
