MANILA – The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) on Friday said it deployed its volunteers and assets nationwide to help ensure peace and order during the midterm elections next week.

In a media briefing, the humanitarian organization said it was prepared to assist schools, malls, and respond to areas of concerns for the polls from May 9 to 12.

Around 2,314 volunteers, 178 ambulances, 103 foot patrol units, 28 emergency vehicles, and 51 mobile units would be activated for the election day.

A total of 291 first aid stations and 146 welfare desks would also be set up in airports, barangay halls, bus terminals, PRC chapters, event places, malls, parks, schools, and even train stations.

“If you feel like you need assistance, if you feel bad, if you feel anxious. Red Cross is there to help but we are not there to put our body to stop the violence,” Gordon told reporters.

Gordon said among the services they could also provide include airlift to bring any individual to the nearest hospital.

“Just dial 143 if you need help…. Whether it is election-related, whether you need an ambulance. Somebody will answer. People will answer. We will have more people here by that time,” he said.

PRC Secretary-General Dr. Gwen Pang added that the Philippine Red Cross raised the bar, since all of their humanitarian assets are also available such as blood services, emergency response units, and disaster management services.

The Philippine Red Cross said this was a partnership with the Commission on Elections, Department of the Interior and Local Government, and the Department of Health to “safeguard the welfare” of Pinoy voters.

In case of any election-related incidents, the public can also call their hotline 143.
