PALO, Leyte — House Speaker Martin Romualdez was officially proclaimed Tuesday as the representative of Leyte’s First District after running unopposed in the 2025 midterm elections.

Romualdez secured 177,485 votes, marking his third and final term in Congress.

In a statement following his proclamation, Romualdez vowed to strengthen the efforts of the House in the upcoming 20th Congress.

When asked whether he was confident about retaining the speakership in the 20th Congress, Romualdez said he was unsure but remained "ready to serve."

The Commission on Elections also proclaimed Alfred Romualdez, the Speaker’s first cousin, as the re-elected mayor of Tacloban City.

Meanwhile, Tingog party-list—whose first nominee is Andrew Julian Romualdez, son of Speaker Romualdez and outgoing Rep. Yedda Romualdez—so far has 66,328 votes in Tacloban City alone.
