MANILA — Dismissed Porac Mayor Jaime Capil is poised for reelection, despite being previously dismissed by the Office of the Ombudsman for his connection with the raided illegal Philippine offshore gaming operator (POGO) hub Lucky South 99 in the town.

Capil received 37,326 votes as of 12:12 a.m. Tuesday, based on 79.8 percent of election returns.

Michael Tapang came in second with 20,383 votes, while Atty. Charlie Santos received 3,069 votes.

The Ombudsman earlier ordered the forfeiture of Capil’s retirement benefits. He also faces a lifetime ban from holding any government position.
