Classes are suspended in La Carlota City and La Castellana  in Negros Occidental following the explosive eruption of Kanlaon Volcano on Tuesday morning, April 8, 2025.

The explosive eruption at Kanlaon  started at 5:51 a.m. and ended at 6:47 a.m.

La Carlota City Mayor Rex Jalandoon said he has also suspended work in government offices  in La Carlota City.

Jalandoon said the voluminous ash fell beyond the six kilometer danger zone in La Carlota City reaching up to  the poblacion.

In Barangay San Miguel barangay health workers immediately distributed masks among residents.

Mayor Rhummyla Nicor Mangilimutan has also suspended classes in La Castellana and is determining the extent of the ashfall damage to her town.

Internally displaced persons living inside the 6 kilometer danger zone have been in the evacuation centers since December 9, 2024 following the eruption of Kanlaon.  Tomorrow will be their fourth month in the evacuation centers.

So far, no additional evacuation has been ordered, according to the Office of Civil Defense Negros Island Region.
