MANILA -- At their home in Cainta, Rizal, Marimar Deogrades patiently waits for updates from Occidental Mindoro, where the number of bodies being recovered from the capsized MV Hong Hai 16 continues to rise.

Her husband, Mark Deogrades, a 32-year-old safety officer of the vessel, is among those still missing.

“Tuwing mag-aala-singko or mag-aalasais ano na po nila kakain daw, doon daw sa kabina nila bababa, kaya ang expected ko po wala siya sa cabin,” said Marimar.

According to the Philippine Coast Guard report, the MV Hong Hai 16 capsized around 5:00 p.m. on Holy Tuesday.

Marimar wishes to go to the incident command post in Barangay Malawaan, Rizal, Occidental Mindoro, but she doesn’t have the strength, as she is undergoing dialysis.

“Bilang dialysis patient po,  hindi po ako makatulog ng maayos. Kalalabas ko lang po ng ospital gawa ng tinaasan po ako ng BP, muntik na po ako magcollapse kahapon,” said Marimar.

Mark and Marimar have two children, aged 8 and 2 years old. Now, all she can do is pray that her husband will be found.

“Siya lang po bumubuhay sa amin  tapos hindi pa siya makita ngayon, ang tagal-tagal na. Sana po ngayong araw makita na po lahat, bangkay ba o buhay , kung pupuwede po huwag na sila titigil gawa po hindi na po kami makatulog. Isip kami ng isip kung anon a ba nangyari sa kanila,” Marimar said through tears.

As of this Sunday, the death toll from the MV Hong Hai 16 tragedy has reached nine.

Two bodies were recovered inside the vessel by the Special Operations Group Southern Tagalog and Technical Wreck Divers of the Coast Guard Special Operations Force.

Around 9:17 a.m., one body was found in cargo hold no. 1, while the second was found around 3:10 p.m. in the cargo hold monitoring room.

But the recovered bodies are almost unrecognizable.

The search for the remaining two missing crew members will continue on Monday.
