CALBAYOG CITY, Samar — Vice President Sara Duterte visited churches in Calbayog City, Samar over the weekend, a group of her father former President Rodrigo Duterte's supporters said.

According to Urosa Calbayog Tatay Digong Movement, Vice President Duterte went to the Most Holy Trinity parish church on Saturday as soon as she arrived by airplane.

Francis Ralf Aquino Merencillo of the UCTDM core group said they were surprised at Duterte’s visit and that they only found out about it through social media.

He said members of the group met up with the vice president, who also went to the Saint Peter and Paul Cathedral during her visit.

Duterte also visited some churches outside Calbayog City.

Urosa Calbayog Tatay Digong Movement was organized to support the elder Duterte, who is currently detained in the Netherlands over a crimes against humanity case at the International Criminal Court over killings in the war on drugs.

At least 7,000 people were killed in acknowledged law enforcement operations in a campaign that many government officials and members of the public approved of at the time.

Vice President Duterte meanwhile faces an impeachment trial at the Senate over alleged irregularities in the use of confidential funds and her alleged threats on the life of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and members of his family.

She has denied the allegations and has attributed the legal challenges she is facing to politics ahead of the 2025 midterm and 2028 presidential elections.
