The Davao City Health Office (CHO) has confirmed two cases of monkeypox (mpox) in the city, one of which resulted in the death of a patient due to complications.

The cases were reported on Wednesday, April 16, following information received from the Department of Health’s Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (RESU). Both patients were admitted to the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) isolation facility.

The City Health Office is actively monitoring all identified close contacts, and established response measures and protocols for mpox are currently being implemented.

Authorities urged the public to remain calm and strictly observe health protocols to prevent further transmission. These include avoiding close physical contact with suspected or confirmed cases, practicing regular hand hygiene, disinfecting potentially contaminated surfaces, and avoiding contact with animals that may carry the virus.
