(2nd UPDATE) Three people were killed in an ambush in San Rafael, Bulacan on Friday, March 21.

The victims were onboard a sports utility vehicle (SUV).

According to the police’s initial investigation, the victims were traversing Cagayan Valley Road in Barangay Capihan past 3 p.m. when unidentified gunmen, who were also onboard a black SUV, opened fire at them.

The driver and passenger in the front seat died on the spot.

The passenger in the back seat, meanwhile, died minutes after being rushed to the hospital.

Police Lt. Col. Eisbon Llamasares, San Rafael chief of police, said they are withholding the names of the victims pending confirmation and notification of their next of kin.

“Ang identities ng ating victims, inaalam pa naming mabuti kaya hindi pa makapagbigay ng concrete na pangalan nila,” Llamasares told ABS-CBN News.

A nearby passenger jeepney was hit by bullets, while the victims’ SUV hit a tricycle, Llamasares said.

Two bystanders were also wounded in the incident.

“Mayroon tayong dalawang bystander na tinamaan pero dinala na rin sa ospital,” Llamasares said.

“Yung mga statement nila hindi pa natin makuha as of now kasi undergoing medication pa po,” he added.

Aside from the victims’ identification cards and belongings, investigators also recovered spent bullet shells and slugs in the crime scene.

Police are now trying to identify the perpetrators and determine the motive behind the attack.
