MANILA — The local government of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) said on Wednesday it "welcomes" President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s move to certify as urgent the bill seeking to postpone elections in the said region.

"We welcome the development and this information that President Marcos Jr. issued a certificate of urgency, dahil nare-recognize na marami pong issues na kailangan ayusin muna bago tuluyan nating masabi na handa ang eleksyon sa BARMM," Atty. Sha Elijah Dumama-Alba, minister for Interior and Local Government in BARMM, said in an interview with TeleRadyo Serbisyo's Johnson Ikwento Mo.

When asked on how the people in BARMM feel regarding the chief executive's move, the official said the people are ready for whatever would push through in the coming months.

"Kami dito sa Bangsamoro government, nire-respeto namin 'yung kapangyarihan ng Kongreso. Naniniwala tayo na dahil mas marami 'yung representative natin doon ay alam nila kung ano ang preparasyon na kinakailangan para dito. Ang mga tao naman dito ay handa whether or not matuloy [ang botohan]," she said.

Although they welcome the move, Dumama-Alba said preparations for the elections are still in place since Marcos Jr.'s move does not set the postponement in stone.

"Tuloy-tuloy pa rin ['yung preparations for May elections]. Sa katunayan, mayroon pong mga ginanap na rin na meetings with Comelec tsaka sa mga security sector natin para ma-ensure, para timely 'yung ating preparation kung matuloy man ito," she said.

Dumama-Alba also said the BARMM government would not lose too much government funds in case the elections are postpones since their spending "so far, election-related, nothing much" and "'di pa naman ganoon [kalaki] 'yung spending natin."
