MANILA – The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on Wednesday said it will issue a preventive suspension order against the modern jeepney operator involved in the road accident along MacArthur Highway in Calumpit, Bulacan.

The road crash happened past 2 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon, with the modern jeepney driver explaining to the police that his brakes went loose while traversing the road.

This resulted in the modern jeepney changing lanes and crashing onto the tricycle, instantly killing the tricycle driver and his passenger.

In a statement, LTFRB Chairperson Teofilo Guadiz said they are coordinating with their office in Central Luzon for the investigation.

“I gave them 15 days to submit the result of the investigation," Guadiz said.

"We are issuing a preventive suspension so as not to preempt the ongoing investigation,” he said.

The preventive suspension also means that the operator’s units will not be allowed to ply its route for 30 days until the result of the investigation comes out.

“Reckless driving and negligence not only endanger lives but also result in severe penalties, including preventive suspensions and possible revocation of franchises,” said Guadiz.

The modern jeepney driver may face reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, multiple injuries and damage to property, the police said.

He is under the custody of the Calumpit Municipal Police Station.
