MANILA (3rd UPDATE) — Two died while 20 others were injured when a mini-bus collided with a tricycle then fell from a bridge along MacArthur Highway in Calumpit, Bulacan on Tuesday, police said.

Videos of witnesses and motorists surfaced online showing rescuers responding to the grim incident.

Based on the driver's statement to the police, his modern jeep – en route to Apalit – lost brakes and collided with the tricycle after changing lanes to supposedly avoid the vehicles in front of him.

The tricycle's driver was among those who died.

Around 8 injured passengers were students of Bulacan State University, said BulSU Student Government President Queenie Quintero. Most of them were sent to Bulacan Medical Center while others' locations are still being identified.

Jonathan Meru, Calumpit's acting chief of police.

Removing the passengers from the bus was challenging as the area under the bridge was deep, said Jao Opena Aringo, one of the witnesses.

The modern jeepney driver may face reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, multiple injuries and damage to property, the police said.

He is now under the custody of the Calumpit Municipal Police Station.

Police encouraged witnesses to coordinate with investigators.

"Dapat bago tayo humawak ng maninbela dapat alam natin 'yung safety, 'yung BLOWBAGS dapat saulado natin 'yun by heart. 'Yung pinakahuli doon 'yung self, kondisyon ba ang katawan natin para magmaneho," he added.
