MANILA  — The Rizal Police Provincial Office has destroyed more than 6,000 illegal firecrackers and improvised cannon or boga confiscated recently around the province ahead of the New Year celebrations.

The destruction of firecrackers was held in Taytay, led by Rizal police director Col. Felipe Maraggun.

Confiscated firecrackers were soaked in a metal drum full of water while the improvised cannon was destroyed using a sledgehammer. 

Among the illegal firecrackers destroyed were picolo, giant five star, and pla-pla.

“Kaya namin kinonfiscate ito dahil aside from maingay, maraming complaints na narereceive kami at kailangang isaalang-alang yung safety ng bawat isa lalong-lalu na yung mga gumagamit nito ay yung mga kabataan," said Maraggun.

Firecracker-related injuries rise to 69: DOH

As of December 21, Rizal PNP has recorded seven cases of firecracker-related injuries.

“Kung hindi pa siguro namin ito kinonfiscate ay baka marami tayong nai-record na injury related dito sa paggamit ng ilegal na paputok," said Maraggun.

Rizal PNP urged the public to avoid using firecrackers this coming New Year’s Eve celebration.
