MANILA — A magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck Ilocos Norte and was felt in other parts of northern Luzon before dawn on Wednesday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

The tectonic tremor hit 4 kilometers southwest of Bangui town at 2:54 a.m. It struck at a depth of 23 kilometers.

The quake could spawn damage and aftershocks, Phivolcs warned.

It said the earthquake was felt at a “strong” Intensity 5 in Laoag, Pagudpud, Dumalneg, Burgos, Pasuquin, Bacarra, Adams, Sarrat and San Nicolas in Ilocos Norte.
