MANILA — The Department of Social Welfare and Development is working with local government units in the Davao Region and in SOCCSKSARGEN to provide assistance to families affected by flash floods there.

In a release, DSWD said its field office in the Davao Region has already distributed aid, including 887 family food packs, to local government units in Davao Occidental.

“Currently, some 739 families or 3,158 individuals are staying in five evacuation centers in Davao Occidental,” DSWD spokesperson Irene Dumlao said.

"We are checking with the LGUs if they need additional food and non-food items for the displaced residents. Our regional office has 157,339 FFPs and standby funds available for augmentation if the need arises."

DSWD Field Office-SOCCSKSARGEN has also extended aid to families in Sarangani and Sultan Kudarat provinces, where rain has also led to evacuations.

Citing a report by Regional Director Loreto Cabaya Jr, the DSWD said an initial P86,000 in relief aid has been distributed to residents of Alabal town in Sarangani.

Around 400 families — 1,600 people — are staying in evacuation centers in Alabal, Glan and General Santos City in Sarangani.

Dumlao said DSWD personnel are on standby to provide more help if needed.
