DAVAO CITY (UPDATED) — A total of 65 police officers from Police Regional Office XI in the Davao region have been reassigned to different regions in Luzon in a series of special orders from the Philippine National Police, although the regional police spokesperson said the movements were unrelated to the rift between President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Vice President Sara Duterte.

Many of the police officers were surprised by the latest directive from the PNP, which took effect on November 25, 2024.

The special order was signed by Police Maj. Gen. Alan Okubo, the PNP acting chief of the Directorial Staff.

Police officers affected by the reassignments have been sent to four regions in Luzon: Cagayan Valley, Mimaropa, Bicol and the Cordillera Administrative Region.

According to PRO XI spokesperson Police Maj. Catherine Dela Rey, this move is part of the regular assignment and reassignment process within the PNP.

"So kung mahinumdoman ninyo, familiar sa inyoha ning mga pangalan, mao ni sila katong mga under investigation, katong nahitabo nga police operations nga naay namatay, and then kadtong mga station commanders nga naay double ilang mga blotter, and other key personnel nga na-under investigation o dunay kaso," Dela Rey said in government TV station PTV Davao.

(If you remember, the names of the police officers may be familiar to you. These are the officers who were under investigation for being involved in deadly PNP operations, as well as the station commanders who have 'double' entries in their blotters and other key personnel facing charges.)

Dela Rey said PRO XI had been waiting for approval of their request to reassign the officers to the Personal Holding and Accounting Unit in Camp Crame.

She mentioned that the decision from Camp Crame had recently been made, leading to the assignment of these officers to various regions outside of Mindanao instead of the PNP PHAU.

PRO XI also urged the public not to link the recent reassignment issue to political matters.

These reassignments come after earlier personnel movements in May and July 2024, marking the third significant reshuffle of PRO XI personnel this year.
