The Department of Health Calabarzon on Friday confirmed the detection of four new Mpox cases, marking a resurgence of the virus after a period of zero cases reported on October 31.

This brought the total number of cases in the region to 13.

The three male patients are in being monitored in home isolation while the female patient required hospitalization but has since recovered as of November 19.

The DOH Calabarzon Regional Epidemiology Surveillance Unit (RESU) said it is closely monitoring the situation to prevent further spread.

It advised the public to stay alert and maintain proper hygiehe practices- such as frequent handwashing, covering coughs and sneezes and avoiding close contact with those who are ill.

"We must remain vigilant, especially as the number of Mpox cases rises in our region. However, there is no need for alarm. With robust public health measures-such as effective prevention, accurate detection, and timely isolation of mpox coses-we can effectlvely curb its spread and protect our community," said Assistant Secretary of Health Or, Ariell Valencia.

Mpox is a contagious disease caused by the monkeypox virus. It is a viral infection which can spread between people, mainly through close contact.

It spreads through close contact including sexual encounters and contact with contaminated materials such as bedding or clothing. Common symptoms include rashes or sores lasting several weeks, fever, headache and muscle aches. While most patents recover at home with supportive care hospitalization may sometimes be necessary.
