TV Patrol personalities Alvin Elchico, Winnie Cordero, and Ariel Rojas won big time at the 2025 Gandingan Awards of the UP Los Baños Community Broadcasters Society on Saturday.

Elchico was awarded as the most outstanding AM radio host for his shows Gising Pilipinas and Wais Konsyumer on DWPM Radyo 630 and TeleRadyo Serbisyo.

"Ang mga ganitong klaseng award po ay nagbibigay ng inspirasyon (This award serves as an inspiration) for us, anchors, radio commentators - to do better and to do our best every time we are on-air. We owe it to the public to do our best," he said in a taped video message.

Elchico shared his award with the production teams of his shows and his Gising Pilipinas co-anchor Doris Bigornia.

The trophy was received by Gising Pilipinas executive producer Camille Postolero.

Meanwhile, Cordero received a special citation as Gandingan ng Kababaihan for her shows Tatak: Serbisyo and Win Today, also on Radyo 630 and TeleRadyo Serbisyo. 

She was the sole nominee in her category for advocates of protection of women's history and welfare.

"Ang gusto lang po namin ay maibahagi ang iba-ibang kwento ng mga kababaihan -- pamoso man o ordinaryo," Cordero said in her speech.

(We simply want to share the different stories of women - whether famous or ordinary.)

The recognition was her first from Gandingan.

For his contribution in advancing awareness, acceptance, and appreciation of science through his weather segment and climate stories on TV Patrol, ABS-CBN's resident meteorologist Ariel Rojas was awarded the Gandingan ng Agham at Teknolohiya. 

In his acceptance speech, he underscored the importance of media in these times of misinformation/disinformation and climate crisis.

"Sa mga mapaminsalang bagyong kumikitil ng buhay at tumatangay ng pangarap; sa mas malalakas na ulan na nagpapalubog sa mga bahay, bayan, at kabuhayan natin; sa mas tumitinding init na tinitiis ng mga Pilipino lalo na ng kabataan sa kanilang eskwela -- karangalan ko pong mapabilang sa mga boses na nagpapaliwanag, nagbibigay-liwanag, at nagtutulak ng aksyon," Rojas said.

(In every storm that claims lives and sweeps away dreams, in heavier rains that drown our homes, towns, and livelihoods, and in intensifying heat endured by Filipinos, especially the youth, it is my honor to be among the voices that explain, enlighten, and inspire action.)

His weekly disaster preparedness show Ligtas Dapat on TeleRadyo Serbisyo and DWPM also scored a second consecutive nod for most outstanding development-oriented science and technology program.

ABS-CBN News' mobile journalism platform Patrol ng Pilipino garnered nominations in two categories: most development-oriented online short-form video series for Adrian Ayalin Adrian Ayalin's Alamin ang Batas series and most development-oriented science and technology program category for Izzy Lee's story.

Other ABS-CBN News personalities who got nods include TV Patrol's Noli de Castro as best AM radio host, Michael Delizo as best field reporter, and ANC's Salve Duplito as Gandingan ng Kabuhayan.

The 19th edition of the Gandingan Awards focused on the theme, "Tagahabi ng Kasaysayan para sa Bayan," highlighted the role of media practitioners, storytellers, and communicators in weaving the narratives of the collective national history.

"In an era where truth, integrity, and responsible storytelling are more crucial than ever, the Gandingan Awards serves as a beacon, honoring those who use their voices to amplify marginalized perspectives, uphold democracy, and drive social change," UP Los Baños Chancellor Jose Camacho Jr. said in his opening message.

Historian Xiao Chua was the recipient of the Ka Louie Tabing Memorial Achievement Award in Community Broadcasting - one of the highest honors of the award-giving body, introduced in 2022.
