MANILA - MMDA chairman Atty. Romando Artes believes  "malfunctioning" brakes are not the reason behind the tragic multiple vehicular collision along Katipunan Avenue in Quezon City on Thursday.

Artes said all types of vehicles on the road should be well maintained to avoid any untoward incidents.

Automobile Association of the Philippines (AAP) president Joe Ferreria agreed and said, it is not just the truck owner's responsibility to ensure that its vehicles are in good condition.

“Ibig sabihin niyan, masama ang maintenance protocol nung may-ari nung truck. Individually lalo na kung negosyo mo yan, dapat iniinspection lahat ng fluid, lahat ng mechanical parts niyan, may responsibilidad yung may-ari niyan to make sure na hindi nakakasakit yung truck habang bumabaybay sa kalsasda," Ferreria explained.

To avoid road accidents, Ferreria said every responsible driver should make sure that before going out on a trip, vehicles must always be inspected.

So, parang piloto ng eroplano, dapat ikaw mismo nag-iinspeksyon nung sasakyan. Huwag mong iaasa sa iba yan," according to Ferreria.

"The responsibility is not only with the owner of the vehicle but even with the driver, ikaw magmamaneho eh," Ferreria added.
