Armed men were seen at the premises of the Philippine Senate after consecutive gunshots were heard on the evening of May 13, 2026. The source of the gunfire remains unknown and is currently under investigation. Earlier on Wednesday, the National Bureau of Investigation confirmed it may serve an arrest warrant against Sen. Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa at any time today, in connection with a crimes against humanity case at the International Criminal Court.

MANILA (UPDATED) -- The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) driver who was arrested <a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/5/14/alleged-gunman-in-senate-shooting-incident-identified-arrested-police-0959">in connection with the shooting at the Senate complex</a> last week has tested positive for gunpowder nitrates, police said. According to PMaj. Hazel Asilo, spokesperson of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), the suspect yielded positive results in the gun residue nitrate test, though authorities stressed the finding is not conclusive.&quot;Merong gun powder residue sa kanya pero hindi ito conclusive, kumbaga corroborative lamang ito doon sa kung ano man &#x27;yung ginamit sa kanya na process,&quot; Asilo said.&quot;Hindi conclusive na talagang nanggaling sa gunpowder kasi maraming posibleng chemicals na naging dahilan para mag-positive &#x27;yan,&quot; she said. Earlier, the Southern Police District clarified that no firearm was recovered from the suspect, although he was found in possession of live ammunition.<div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/5/15/no-gun-seized-from-nbi-driver-arrested-in-senate-shooting-2259">READ: No gun seized from NBI driver arrested in Senate shooting</a></div>&quot;Since hindi tayo nakakuha ng baril mula sa kanya pero meron tayong nakuha na mga bala naman sa kanya. So hindi natin alam kung nasan &#x27;yung mga baril na ginamit,&quot; Asilo said.The suspect was arrested based on reports from security personnel at the Senate.Initially, he faced several complaints, including violations of the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition, alarms and scandals, tumults and disturbances of public order, resistance and disobedience to a person in authority, disturbance of proceedings, trespass to property, violation of Senate security, and direct assault.Police later said the charges were reduced to two: violation of the firearms law related to the ammunition recovered from him and direct assault, which now covers the other alleged offenses.Authorities said bail has already been set at P80,000 for the firearms law violation and P36,000 for direct assault. Whether the suspect will be released depends on the completion of his bail processing.
