Zaldy Co was lawful and followed procedure, the Philippine National Police said Sunday.</p><p>Co’s lawyer Ruy Rondain on Friday said that authorities had not produced a warrant during the seizure and had detained Co’s driver for more than 12 hours.</p><p>“The operation was in compliance with an order from proper authorities. We want to assure the public that all actions of the Philippine National Police are legal and in accordance with the law,” Police Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr., acting PNP chief, said in a press release.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/1/9/zaldy-co-s-lawyer-says-seizure-of-vehicles-linked-to-ex-lawmaker-illegal-1541">Zaldy Co’s lawyer says seizure of vehicles linked to ex-lawmaker illegal<br/></a></div><p>The PNP Highway Patrol Group said Thursday that police and Bureau of Customs personnel had implemented a search warrant for the vehicles.</p><p>“There are also motor vehicles reported to the HPG as spurious, with suspected contraband inside—that’s why we are here,” Police Brig.Gen. Hansel Marantan, HPG director, said then.</p><p>The customs bureau said Friday the warrant was presented to and was received by counsels representing the multi-level parking facility in Taguig City the vehicles were seized from.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/1/8/authorities-seize-some-of-zaldy-co-s-luxury-vehicles-2016">Authorities seize alleged luxury vehicles of Zaldy Co<br/></a></div><p>“From the start, we already committed to provide assistance in the investigation and enforcement of all legal orders in relation to the flood control issue. The involvement of your PNP in the operation was part of that commitment,” Nartatez said Sunday.</p><p>Co, a former chair of the House appropriations committee, is among the central figures in the flood control corruption controversy. </p><p>He has refused to come home, citing security concerns, and resigned his post after the House cancelled his travel authority and told him to return to the Philippines.</p><p>He has denied involvement in the &quot;ghost&quot; flood control projects and has since alleged that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., his son Ilocos Norte Rep.
