<p>MANILA – Only the files being authenticated and under the custody of the Office of the Ombudsman can be useful for the flood control projects probe, Malacañang said on Saturday. </p><p>In an interview with ABS-CBN News, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said only the authenticated “Cabral files” have weight, in comparison to the documents being shared online.</p><p>It was reported that the documents contain the list of alleged insertions and project proponents on possibly irregular infrastructure projects handled by the late Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Undersecretary Catalina Cabral.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/1/10/house-panel-to-request-dpwh-s-copy-of-cabral-files-ridon-1306"><strong>House panel to request DPWH&#x27;s copy of &#x27;Cabral files&#x27; – Ridon</strong></a></div><p>“Yung galing sa Ombudsman, gagamitin talagang ebidensya yan. Dun naman sila hahango at kukuha kung ano man ang kanilang madidiskubre,” Castro said.</p><p>“Yung files na pakalat-kalat lang diyan at hindi naman ito na-authenticate. Tingin natin hindi ito magiging mahalaga,” she added. </p><p>While Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III argued this week that one should not waste time on the documents handled by the late undersecretary, Castro believed that the documents could still be useful depending on an official’s intent.  </p><p>“Listahan ito, maaring ang iba ay nag-name drop pero ayon naman kay Senator Lacson, maaaring busisiin ito, so depende sa magiging intention nila in aid of legislation,” she added. </p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/1/10/ridon-madriaga-s-claims-vs-sara-duterte-must-be-vetted-1645"><strong>Ridon: Madriaga&#x27;s claims vs Sara Duterte must be vetted </strong></a> </div><p>Cabral was one of the former senior DPWH executives tagged in the flood control corruption scandal for her supposed role in insertions in the national budget, which her lawyer rejected in the interview.</p><p>Cabral was found dead last month along Kennon Road in Tuba town in Benguet.</p><div> </div>
