MANILA — Two individuals have been arrested in connection with the killing of a House of Representatives employee, the Philippine National Police said Tuesday.

In a press briefing, PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo said the suspects—one identified as the middleman and the other as the lookout—were apprehended in separate operations in Caloocan and Quezon City.

They have been charged with murder and are now under the custody of the Quezon City Police District.

According to Fajardo, the middleman, identified only as alias Balong, admitted in an extrajudicial confession that they were hired for P30,000 by a couple over alleged personal grudge.

The victim was reportedly planning to file charges of qualified theft and estafa against the masterminds, who were former employees of his business.

“Ito po ay diumano may personal na galit sa biktima dahil diumano sila daw po ay sasampahan ng kaso nitong ating biktima po. So, nagpahanap po sa kanilang assistant kung sino ang puwedeng pumatay,” Fajardo said. “Hindi pa sila binabayaran hanggang ngayon.”

Four other suspects believed to be involved in the crime remained at large.

Mauricio Pulhin, 63, chief of technical staff at the House Committee on Ways and Means, was gunned down on June 15 by unidentified men in Quezon City.

Initial investigation revealed that two assailants entered a private venue where Pulhin was celebrating his 7-year-old daughter’s

birthday. He was shot in the head at close range.

The gunmen fled on a motorcycle and fired at the subdivision’s guard house as they escaped.

Pulhin was rushed to the hospital but was later declared dead by the attending physician.
