MANILA — Preparations for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE) will proceed as the bill postponing it awaits President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.’s signature, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said on Tuesday.

The next BSKE is scheduled on December 1, 2025.

Commissioner Rey Bulay, commissioner-in-charge of the BSKE 2025, said they prepared for all scenarios concerning the polls, whether it will push through or not.

Bulay noted that the problems on the procurement for ballot boxes might include the materials for these as well as its availability.

They have also prepared for the scenario that the law, if approved, will be questioned at the Supreme Court.

Meanwhile, the voter’s registration for BSKE supposedly set from July 1 to July 11 would be moved to October.

“Sigurado yun, October tayo. Yung fixed date ang wala pa. After BARMM. Tapusin natin ang BARMM,” he said.

Once the bill is signed by the president into law, the BSKE will be held on the first Monday of November 2026.

It will also extend the BSK officials’ term to 4 years from the current 3 years.
