MANILA — Sen. Imee Marcos on Friday released a political advertisement claiming that her brother President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. has lost control of government.

"Ang gobyerno ngayon ay hindi Marcos. Ang gobyerno ngayon ay Romualdez at Araneta," she said, an apparent swipe at her cousin Martin Romualdez and sister-in-law First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos.

(The government is no longer a Marcos one. The government we have now is Romualdez and Araneta)

She said that a true Marcos would not enter into an alliance with politicians who "mistreated" their family, which fled the Philippines in 1986 after the People Power Revolution ended the dictatorship of Ferdinand Marcos.

"Hindi mo kakainin ang isinuka mo para lamang sa poltiika. Hindi ganiyan ang legasiya ng aking ama," said the senator, who is seeking reelection.

(You will not swallow your vomit for politics. That is not our father's legacy)

Marcos said that with the recent issues the country is facing, it has become clear that a Marcos was no longer in control of the government.

"Imported na ang bigas, imported pa ang hustisya, kaya malinaw ang gobyerno ngayon ay hindi Marcos. Ang gobyerno ngayon ay Romualdez at Araneta."

(Rice is imported, even justice is imported, that is why it is clear that this is not a Marcos government)

Marcos and her brother had been at odds over their conflicting stance on the March 11 arrest and transfer of former President Rodrigo Duterte to the custody of International Criminal Court (ICC), where he faces allegations of crimes against humanity over his brutal drug war.

She left Alyansa last month after launching a Senate investigation into the matter and said this week that her brother's low approval ratings are affecting her reelection campaign.
