MANILA —  Thirty-one foreign nationals were arrested after the Bureau of Immigration raided an alleged scam hub operating at a building in Makati on Monday.

BI spokesperson Dana Sandoval said the group was caught working "in what appears to be a scam hub located in a well-known building."

This marks the third major operation targeting alleged scam hubs concealed within the Central Business District.

Authorities discovered that this particular hub was operating under the guise of an insurance company.

“What’s even more surprising is that at the entrance of their office, there was a logo of a well-known insurance company—likely used to make the operation appear legitimate,” Sandoval said.

According to the agency, identifying the suspects has proven difficult, as many blend in with the foreigner population in the city.

“They’re likely trying to hide in plain sight, presenting themselves as legitimate individuals to avoid suspicion. This is part of the effort to mask their actual operations,” Sandoval said.

The Bureau of Immigration has filed charges against the 31 foreign nationals for violating immigration laws.

“These individuals violated the conditions of their stay and have been deemed undesirable. They now face deportation proceedings,” Sandoval said.

Meanwhile, the immigration bureau continues to issue warnings to foreign nationals who persist in illegal scamming activities, despite the ban on Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO) ordered by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

"Marami pa rin pong nangangahas ng mga foreign nationals na mag-engage in scamming operations by pretending to be legitimate companies or by hiding sa mga tagong lugar," said Sandoval.

"Pero nakatutok po tayo ang ating pamunuan as well as yung mga partner agencies po natin upang tugisin, hulihin po at ipa-deport itong mga ito."
