Detained pastor and senatorial candidate Apollo Quiboloy is asking for a manual recount of votes after falling behind in the latest Comelec tally of winning candidates.

Quiboloy, the televangelist founder of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ ministry, is currently in 31st place in the latest Comelec tally with 5,577,812 votes.

"On behalf of Pastor Apollo C. Quiboloy, we extend our sincere gratitude to the millions of Filipinos who supported his senatorial bid. Your dedication and belief in his advocacy for truth, justice and accountability have been truly inspiring: This campaign was powered by ordinary citizens who stood for extraordinary change," said Quiboloy's legal counsel, Atty. Israelito Torreon.

"However, given the widespread reports of discrepancies in election returns, inconsistent firmware versions, and overvoting issues, Pastor Apollo respectfully calls for a full manual recount of the senatorial votes," he said.

The religious leader is currently detained as he faces child and sexual abuse cases as well as human trafficking charges in Philippine and US courts. He has repeatedly denied the accusations.

Torreon maintained that the request is not a "rejection of the democratic process."
