DAVAO CITY — Former President Rodrigo Duterte’s long-time home in Davao City is expected to be opened for public viewing, according to his daughter Vice President Sara Duterte.

On Monday, the younger Duterte told reporters that she had raised the idea to her father’s common-law partner, Honeylet Avanceña.

“Nagsuggest na ako kay Honeylet kasi bahay nila yan,” said Vice President Duterte.

“Sabi ko: ‘Buksan mo na lang para sa mga tao, para nakikita nila saan ba kumain si Pangulong Duterte, saan siya natulog,’ para maishare namin yung buhay ni Pangulong Duterte,” she added.

Duterte’s house in Matina — which has been uninhabited after he transferred to a new residence — has been a tourist site of sorts for his supporters, with some even taking pictures with the former president’s standee by the gate.

“Dahil wala na siya dito sa atin, makita man lang ng mga tao the way he lived his life dito sa Davao City,” she said.

The Vice President added that she expects Avanceña to heed her suggestion.

“Busy pa kasi siya. Medyo nadiskaril kasi yung pagne-negosyo niya, at lahat lahat na dahil sa mga pangyayari but I’m sure papayag yan kasi special din sa kaniya yung bahay na yan,” she said.

In recent months, some Davaoeños have been taking turns camping outside Duterte’s Matina home after reports circulated that the property might soon be raided by police.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has since denied the allegation.
