MANILA -- The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is scheduled to meet officials of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) on Friday, April 11 to discuss the latest peace and order situation nationwide as the country approaches the 2025 National and Local Elections (NLE).

According to Comelec chairman George Garcia, the commission will wait for the recommendation of the security cluster whether there is a need to place other parts of the country under its control.

Last week, Comelec formally placed Datu Odin Sinsuat town in Maguindanao del Norte under its control, in the wake of the ambush of its election officer Atty. Bai Maceda Lidasan-Abo and her husband Jojo in Barangay Makir.

Garcia said the commission is studying the possibility of placing two more areas in the country under Comelec control.

Recent election-related violence (REI) was recorded in the town of Lagangilang in Abra where a barangay chairperson and a municipal councilor died in a shooting incident.

Garcia is convinced that this incident is election-related.
