MANILA -- President Ferdinand Marcos Jr has directed government agencies to ensure the safety and convenience of Filipino travelers during the Holy Week break, Malacanang said Tuesday.

Palace Press Officer Claire Castro noted that measures are in place to strictly monitor the expected exodus of the public to the provinces for the traditional annual break and to prevent delays or accidents during their travels.

At sabi nga po, nagbigay po ng order ang ating Pangulo hindi lamang po sa DOTr pero sa mga attached agency po to ensure the safety and convenience of all the passengers who will be travelling to their hometowns or will have vacations," Castro said.

"Magkakaroon din po ng strict inspection sa mga terminals, ports, airports so that there will be no delays to the operations prior to the Holy Week kasi po mas marami pong maaaring magkaroon ng delays kapag maraming nagbibiyahe.

Castro said that the President has also instructed police authorities to continue their law enforcement activities even during the Holy Week break

The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) have already started strengthening their safety measures and preparations for the expected influx of passengers.

MARINA started its inspection of ports two weeks before the Holy Week peak season, while the PCG is set to deploy additional personnel in more vulnerable parts of Batangas Port.

MARINA expects the peak season to start on April 16 or Holy Wednesday, ending on April 20 or Easter Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Paranaque Integrated Terminal Exchange is expecting around 2.5-million passengers to pass from April 9 to 23.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority will deploy more than 2,500 personnel during the Holy Week to ensure the safety and convenience of the public in various transportation hubs.

MMDA Chairman Romando Artes said the agency will implement a "no day off and no absence" policy on April 16, 17, and 21, when heavy traffic is expected due to the Holy Week exodus.
